How to Make a Honey Pumpkin Pie!

Bee thankful

Bee ready for Thanksgiving with this honey pumpkin pie, made with pure honey instead of sugar! The filling is simple, but delectable - pumpkin, honey, eggs, and cream, plus warming, aromatic spices. This recipe is for a 9-inch pie, which makes about 8-10 servings (depending on the size of your serving!) It can be made dairy-free by substituting a non-dairy milk or gluten-free by preparing a gluten-free pie crust. Alternatively, you can make a crustless custard by baking just the filling in pudding dishes! Let us know in the comments how your honey pumpkin pie comes out!

INGREDIENTS:

  • Pie Crust (Use your favorite recipe or pre-made pie crust)

  • 1 3/4 cups pumpkin puree (one 15 oz. can of pumpkin)

  • 1/2 cup honey (we suggest Maasai Honey 😉)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon ground clove (OR 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie mix)

  • optional: 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric (this does not significantly affect the flavor, but gives your filling a lovely “honey” color)

  • 3/4 cup cream (you can also use half and half, whole milk or non-dairy milk)

  • 3 large eggs

DIRECTIONS:

Serves 8-10 slices.

  1. Press pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan, crimp the edges as desired.

  2. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 Degrees Celsius).

  3. Mix together dry ingredients - salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, and turmeric.

  4. Mix together honey, vanilla, and pumpkin puree. Blend with dry ingredients until color is uniform.

  5. Beat the cream into the mixture using a whisk.

  6. Beat the eggs into the mixture.

  7. Optional: Before pouring the filling, mix together a bit of egg and cream and brush onto the edges of the pie crust. This will give your crust a golden, flakey texture.

  8. Carefully pour the filling into the pie crust, then wait a short moment for air bubbles to escape from the top (you can give it a gentle tap if you like).

  9. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until pie has fully set. (If the center of the pie does not “jiggle”, then your pie is likely done! You can also test by inserting a toothpick)

  10. Allow to cool, then slice and serve. You can drizzle honey over each slice, or top with whipped cream!

Enjoy!
